SoCal

So this past weekend Jayce, Grandma, and I all traveled to Anaheim to visit the Leach family, and celebrate the upcoming addition to the Hoffmann household!  In case you missed the previous posts, Stephanie and I are both pregnant, and due two weeks apart.  We have managed to see each other each trimester, and have documented our growing bumps together.  While she has gained minimal weight compared to me, our bumps are semi-similar in size (though she hides it well in with her clothes, I tend to favor shirts that show it off).

Friday morning the three of us headed out in Mav (my new ride), and he did great (Jayce and Mav, haha).  We stopped half way in Blythe to stretch our legs, eat, and use the restroom.  Then it was back on the road.  We made it to the Leach House that afternoon, and Jayce spent the afternoon running around the front patio, scoping out all the new digs, finding some new hiding places, and squeezing in some snuggles with Auntie Stephanie and her baby bump.  After a trip out for dinner, it was off to bed for the J man, and some party prep and visiting for us "adults".

Saturday was the day of the shower.  Jayce starting the morning trying to feed himself the yogurt.  I'd say maybe 50% of it made it to his mouth, the rest was smeared all over his face (and hair).  We topped yogurt off with some banana and muffins :)  Then it was time to finish decorating (aka nap time for the J man).  As he woke up it was more hide and seek/peek a boo with the table skirts, and running like a monster through the front door streamers.  Overall, he was a trooper that day.  That night was a little on the difficult side though, as that fourth pesky molar finally cut through.  So Jayce is now the proud owner of eight front teeth, and four molars...and I have a feeling the incisors are not far behind :-/  In other exciting news though, through a joint effort of the Aunties, Grandma, and Mommy, Jayce has a new word - Fishes!  (ish-E-s, hard emphasis on the E).

Sunday morning we spent the morning time just lounging around and goofing off while we waiting to hear whether Auntie Stephanie had to work.  Jayce enjoyed all the attention from his aunties, with his favorite part being riding their shoulders, and dancing around while they tried to hold on to the wiggle monster's feet!

Unfortunately Auntie Stephanie did end up getting called in to work.  While that meant that our visit with her would come to an end, it also meant that we were going to take her to work, and play there while she worked.  That's right folks, Auntie Stephanie works at the San Diego Wild Animal Safari Park!  Woo Hoo!  Jayce had all sorts of fun there!

He got to pet three different colored "dogs" (goats - any animal with a tail and four legs right now is called a dog).

And feed the lorikeets with Auntie Stacie and Grandma (I opted not to venture into that cage; not a big fan of the birds flying around me like that).

And we took a guided tram ride through "Africa" (or at least the area of the park landscaped to resemble Africa, and stocked with the native animals).  On the tram ride we saw a baby rhino and several baby wildebeests.

By the end of the day Jayce was pretty tuckered out.  Between the heat, humidity, and all the activity, he didn't get a second nap, but he hung in there.  And even perked up when we stopped to visit the gorillas; his favorite being the baby gorilla (he was playing with some paper, and hiding from his mommy).  He was so good through dinner too; and ate almost all his fish sticks and fruit from the kids meal in the restaurant.  Hungry boy.

We are home now, and settling back into our normal routine.  Overall the trip was fabulous, Jayce did great, and I am eternally grateful for the Leach's and them opening their home to us while we were in town for the baby shower; traveling with a little kid is so much easier with a house to go to than a hotel room - and for all the love and affection they show for me and my kid (and the assistance in keeping him happy and chasing after him, he's quick!).  Also, for Grandma, she made the trip that much easier on me; between trying to head off a cranky boy in a car seat, to bath time assistance, and just general wrangling.  This kid is getting heavy, and one arm isn't enough to carry him, and he no longer sits comfortably on my belly (mostly due to the fact that the new baby tries to push him off...)  Hope you all had a fabulous weekend; see you next week!
