5 months and growing!

5 months!  Holy cow, this time next month we may be entering the world of food!

Outgrowing the basket!
So no doctor's appointment this month, so once again we don't have any official stats yet.  However using our home scale, and the trusty measuring tape, I can tell you that Jayce is ~16 lbs, and ~28".  I feel like this kid is constantly growing!
Enjoying pool time!

We have officially mastered half of the art of rolling over.  It seems like in the last week or so every time we put Jayce down on the floor, within minutes he is on his tummy.  Fortunately we have passed the "I hate being on my tummy" phase, and he will lay there contentedly playing with the colors on the mat or the carpet "hairs" (depending on if he rolled onto or off of the mat).  He has also found new things in life to be fascinated with, particularly water bottles.  If there is one near by he loves trying to reach for it and bat at it, and finds it completely hilarious when the empty one is squeezed at him, making all sorts of new sounds.  No matter what is going on in life, hearing Jayce laugh completely makes my day (especially if it is because I'm doing something).

The down side of rolling over is that he now does this in his sleep.  That part doesn't completely bother me, I know he's fairly safe in his crib - there's nothing in there he could choke on or suffocate with.  The problem is that when he does roll over, one or more of his limbs usually end up out of the crib, wedged through the slats.  This weekend we experimented with a breathable crib bumper, but he had a minor melt down (and by minor I mean I put him to bed at 830, and he was crying until 1030).  This wasn't not remedied until I removed the  bumper.  I think that maybe he freaked out a little when he woke up and didn't recognize where he was (while the bumper is "breathable" it is not see-through, and I think he didn't quite understand why his perspective changed).  We are going to attempt this again this week, maybe starting with a little bit of playtime in the crib with bumper during the day, and see how that goes.

Jayce is also getting pretty good at sitting up.  While he does not do this on his own very well for very long, he can sit up, without assistance for about 30 seconds.  After that its like watching a the blocks fall in Jenga, it all happens in slow motion (don't worry, I don't leave him alone, I've been there to catch him).

He wants to crawl so badly.  He spends a lot of time on his tummy reaching for things just out of his reach, and trying to get to them/get them to him.  He hasn't quite figured out how to used his legs in this endeavor though.  Which I'm okay with.  Its nice to know that I can currently leave him on the floor for 1 minute to go use the bathroom, and know that he will be where I left him (at least until he can figure out how to roll off his tummy to his back).

In other news, today was Jayce's first day of daycare!  Things got off to a bit of a rocky-ish start, and he wasn't really willing to take a bottle when he was hungry, but by the end of the day things were much better.  Hopefully tomorrow will be good too!

That's all for now, just more growing to do!  I have a video of Jace rolling over, and am working on trying to get it into a format to upload.  I can upload videos taken with the iPad, but am having trouble with the ones on my camera.  Stay tuned, I'm trying.
