Rolling...and rolling...and rolling

Little miss is closing in on 5 months (this coming Wednesday!!), and we are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.  She still hasn't gone back to sleeping through the night, but is now only waking up once, maybe twice depending on the night.  Which is so much better than every 2-3 hours like it was when we got home.  Given that most of these night wakings have been resulting in a feeding, she has definitely chunked up a bit.  I wouldn't be surprised if she has gained 1.5-2 lbs in the last month - but we won't get an official weight on her for another month....

We have been getting back into our normal routine around here, which is actually really nice.  The weather has been gorgeous as well (in the high 60s, low 70s), so we've been taking lots of walks, and playing in the backyard as much as possible, since we know these days are limited (it is either going to cool way down again, or the temperature will continue to rise into the summer, either way outside play will be limited)

well hello ladies, would you like a ride?

Jayce has been getting a lot better at the driving thing lately, though, like last week, he really needs to work on his steering and paying attention to where he is going.  He likes to watch the wheels turn while he drives....he's come thisclose to running the dogs over more than once.  Ashlynn is less than impressed with his driving skills

Ashylnn is starting to become more interactive and playful as the days go on.  She loves being on the play mat, and adores all the toys (both hers and Jayce's).  Jayce likes to show her how to play with the toys, and even shares his cars with her.

It's kind of strange to sit back and look at the kids, and see traits/quirks of your own manifesting themselves in your kids.  For example; Justin hates feet.  So much so that the last thing he takes off before a shower are his socks (literally right before stepping into the shower), and the first thing he puts on after his shower is socks (usually before he steps off of the bath mat).  Jayce has picked up on this, and he requires socks on at all times.  And not just his.  More than once he has pointed to my bare feet and expressed his disapproval.  Ashlynn on the other hand, seems to do everything in her power to keep socks off her feet.  By dinner time we are usually tired of replacing them, and she goes bare foot for the remainder of the evening.  Jayce is not ok with this.  So much so, that he spent 15 minutes, 15 MINUTES, trying to put Ashlynn's socks back on her feet!  Never mind the fact that he doesn't quite have the coordination to put socks on his own feet, it bothered him that much that he tried for that long to remedy the situation.

In an effort to be a bit more organized and keep the clutter at bay, I recently purchased a second storage bench from Ikea to house the numerous toys, balls, and blocks that are slowly taking over our living room.  So now we have two full chests, instead of one overflowing chest and a big mess on the floor behind the couch...  Bonus: Jayce now has a ramp to run all his cars down throughout the day.  So not really sure that this fixed the clutter issue, but it sure makes Jayce happy!

So, I mentioned last week, that Ashlynn is rolling all over the place.  That hasn't changed.  My immobile infant is rapidly becoming a mobile one.  Over the course of our lunch the other day, she rolled the length of the living room.  Friday night (when Justin was at work) was the best.  After her bath, and Jayce's shower, I left her on the floor in the middle of the open area of our bedroom while Jayce and I went downstairs to get his cup of milk for bedtime stories.  I was literally downstairs for no longer than a minute (carried J down the stairs, to the fridge, retrieved the milk cup, and back up the stairs...never put J down, cause then we would have never made it back up the stairs).  I came back up to our room to grab Ashlynn for story time, and this is what I came back to....

....the stinker was under our bed!  After snapping the pic (cause it was too funny not to), I went to grab her, and she was preparing to roll further under the bed.  How she managed this without hitting her head is beyond me, but she was happy and content hanging out under our bed....

story time with the kiddos
I think that about covers it for now.  I have a table to go build for the kids, more on that next week!
